5 Easy Halloween Costumes (That You Probably Already Own)

Hi BOO!(Hehe),

I am SO so excited to feature a Halloween Post!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and I typically try to go all out for my costume.  However, this year I have succumbed to the fact that I don’t have the time, energy, or funds to have a DIY intensive costume.  And so, I took a peek into my closet to see if there was anything I already owned that I could turn into a semi-clever costume…

Ta-da!  I came up with not one, but FIVE costume ideas and literally spent ZERO dollar bills.   WINNING.

I decided to share these outfits with you to inspire you to maximize your own closet and get creative with your last minute costume ideas.  All of these costumes can obviously be modified and tailored to your own personal style–as with all of my outfit posts.  I hope these help/inspire you with your last-minute costume this year!

Costume #1: Queen of the Dead

  • Flower Crown, Floral Headband, or Fresh Picked Flowers
  • Old formal dress
  • Lipstick
  • Eyeliner

This costume was super easy to put together.  I had an old flower crown from a festival and a vintage dress I thrifted years ago that I never got a chance to wear.   I literally used lipstick and eyeliner as my face makeup.  This costume obviously did take SOME effort.  But it was simply Googling “Day of the Dead Makeup” and then trying my best to imitate.

Costume #2: Hipster Disney Princess (Pocahontas)

  • Brown/Cognac Top
  • Turquiose/Teal Necklace
  • Jeggings
  • Boots
  • Black Rimmed Glasses
  • Fedora
  • Sign with a pretentious saying

This costume is super fun and clever.  I did the costume years ago with a group of friends and we all went as hipster Disney Princesses.  This is a slightly better version in my opinion and I put in way less effort.  I own all of these items and have never worn them together, but if we’re being honest….I would probably actually wear this outfit HAHA.  Whichever princess you decide to go as….Black rimmed glasses are a MUST! If you need inspiration for your fav Disney Princess just Google “Hipster Disney Princess Costume”….you will LOVE.

Costume #3: Lady Leopard

  • Sweater
  • Leopard Print Fur Vest
  • Jeggings
  • Boots
  • Eye liner

Talk about easy.  This is an outfit I already wear together!  So basically I just tied some of my hair in two buns as “cat ears” and then used eyeliner to draw some whiskers and spots.  It doesn’t get more simple than that. RAWR!

Costume #4: Bougie Kitty

  • Black Dress
  • Black Fur Vest
  • Choker
  • Sparkly Bracelets

I love this Bougie Kitty costume!  It was easy to put together and I feel cute, sassy, and classy.  I really think any dress and fur vest will do for this costume but I happen to love this “black cat” look.  The key players here are the fur vest, choker, and bling bling bracelets.  The fur vest adds a bit of “luxury”, the choker looks like a cat collar, and the bracelets add to the “wealthy” look. ME-OW.

Costume #5: Teenage Witch

  • Black Top
  • Black Tulle Skirt
  • Black Boots
  • Black Choker
  • Something with a black cat on it
  • Headphones
  • Cellphone
  • Space Buns

This may be the easiest Halloween costume EVER.  Basically just wear all black and take a bunch of selfies all night. As if you weren’t already gonna do that anyway HA!  The choker is so on trend right now and I’ve seen so many teens rockin’ em.  The headphones are because teens LOVE their music.  The space buns are just a popular hair style I’ve seen the youngin’s wearing and of course you need a cell phone to take selfies.  If you want to take it a step further, get a selfie stick!!

I hope these ideas have been helpful! for you.  Even if you don’t end up going as any of these, I hope they have inspired you to get creative with you current wardrobe.  Have a lovely and SAFE Halloween!

6 Ways To Wear Shorts This Fall

Blogged while watching Black Mirror

Hey Girlies!

I know this is only the second one, but I am loving these themed posts!  I feel such clarity and structure.  Blogging is a lot harder and time consuming than I bargained for, and having themed posts is keeping me motivated.  How are you feeling about it so far?

This week’s theme is all about fall shorts!  I’ve mentioned before that I love to find ways to maximize my closet.  I try to make all of my clothes as transitional as possible.  I bought a pair of distressed shorts off the clearance rack at Maurice’s at the end of summer, meaning I really didn’t wear shorts ALL summer.  So, I played around in my closet trying to figure out ways to wear them into fall.

RULE #1: Throw some tights on!

That is the consistent factor in all of the outfits I am sharing with you.  Tights are (in my opinion) one of the best fall accessories.  You can turn your summer dresses into fall dresses, your summer shorts into fall shorts.  Its amazeballs.

All of the outfits I’m sharing with you today are pretty casual and they can definitely be modified to your own style and color preferences.  They are just to serve as an inspiration.  And I do indeed hope they do!

Outfit #1: Sweater + Scarf + Thigh High Boots

Outfit #2: White Tee + Black Blazer + Black Booties

Outfit #3: Faux Fur Vest + Long Sleeve Tee + Thigh High Boots

Outfit #4 :Sweater + Scarf +  Lace Up Ballet Flats (Yes, there are antelopes on that scarf !)

Outfit #5:Black Leather Jacket + White Tee + Black Booties

Outfit #6: Leather Jacket + White Tee + Matching Suede Boots

There you have it!  These are just a few basic ideas that I have come up with so far.  I’m sure I will find some more ways to wear shorts this fall so stay tuned on my instagram.

Which of these outfits do you like the best?  Which would you NEVER be caught dead in?  Always down for a little feedback so don’t be a stranger!

6 Ways To Style a Khaki Blazer

6waystostylekhakiblazerBlogged while watching NEW GIRL ❤

Hey there!

It’s been a while.  I have put blogging on the back burner for a bit while still adjusting to my new life.  I have been feeling super inspired lately, but haven’t made the time to write another post.  Hopefully you follow my INSTAGRAM @thehoneygoldguru, as I have still been posting my daily outfits there for you!

During my time away, I have thought a lot about the way I want to run this blog.  The purpose of it’s existence is to help other apple shaped women with styling ideas that flatter our shape. That being said, I’d really love to have more defined blog posts instead of just my daily outfits and where to “get-the-look.”

I chose styling a khaki blazer as my first post in the series for a few reasons.  First, I believe a blazer is a great staple piece for us apples.  A fitted blazer can really help create a nice sliming shape for our tummy area.  It is also a great thing to pair with a more fitted tee because it hides our dreaded muffin top.  I was already trying to figure out ways to style my khaki blazer and felt SUPER accomplished when I found 6 different way to maximize it’s wear.  This piece is actually one of the most challenging articles of clothing I’ve ever had to style, so of course I HAD to share with you all…..

Outfit #1: Add some Cranberry

Outfit #2: Stripes + Denim

Outfit #3: Black Jumpsuit + Flats

Outfit #4: Dark Brown Boots + Cognac Sweater

Outfit #5: White tee + Animal Print

Outfit #6: Dark Stripes + Leggin’s

……I hope you have found these outfits inspiring.  Which was you fav? I would love to see any outfit ideas you have for a khaki blazer.

Don’t be a stranger!
